In fact, my knees were sore for two days after the flight. Luckily, I recovered, but only after a surf in the Pacific Ocean at a beautiful little pocket beach called, "Freshwater Beach."
Aside from seeing the Sydney Opera House, the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the "top otional" beach at Bondi, I would have to say my favorite part of Australia, so far, is the Royal Botanic Garden in Sydney. 75 acres of beautiful rolling meadows dotted with sandstone outcroppings, nestled between the hustle of the Harbour and Downtown. While this Garden contains 10,000s of plant species (many of which are only found in Australia), the Garden is also home to Grey-headed Flying Fox, or "Fruit Bats." This species of bat is a native species and is endemic to Australia! With a body length of 10 inches and a wingspan of 3 feet, these bats are close to being the largest bat in the world (title held by malaysian gaint golden crowned furit bat with wingspan up to 1.5 meters). Regardless seeing these bats roost in their "camps" was mindblowing.
Finally, we bought a car today. It's a Ford Falcon wagon (model not sold in US) with 251,000Km and we purchased it, after a thorough inspection, from a wonderfully nice Danish couple who had just completed their 4 month holiday stay in OZ. Aside from the car itself, they included essential extras like camping chairs, a gas stove, a mattress for the back of the car, maps, and an esky (cooler). I will be sure to post picutres soon.
